Legal Question in Tax Law in New York

charitable contributions

I sent this question a few minutes ago and made a mistake in my email address. The question is whether I can give the money I would have given to a charity to a friend who itemizes his deductions. I don't itemize on my tax return. My friend would agree to donate the money I give him to the charity I specify, but I would get nothing of value from the agreement. It would just provide a tax savings to my friend. Is this legal?

Re: charitable contributions

It is permissible, provided you received nothing in exchange for the gift to your friend.
