Legal Question in Tax Law in New York

My Income Tax Refund Check Bounced

My NYS income tax refund check was not accepted by my bank (the same bank that the state uses). They said there are no funds in the account. I called the state and after hours of transfers and holding they said we will call you back and never did. . .what should i do?

Re: My Income Tax Refund Check Bounced

This seems unusual. I have never heard that NYS has no funds to cover a refund check. Not seeing the check, I cannot explain why it was denied for deposit. If the bank will not accept it for redeposit, you can either return it (by certified mail, return receipt) and ask for a replacement, or call the NY Attorney Genral's office and report this. I also suggest getting a tax supervisor on the phone at the Treasurer's office to explain what is going on.

If the check is not stale dated, redeposit it.
