Married filing joint or Single? which is better?
hi
i live with my fiance, and we both work full time. he earns about 40k a year and i earn about 35k.
we have no dependants.
would we be better off tax wise to get married and file together or keep filing single?
we plan to be married soon anyhow but were wondering if it would save us tax dollars if we were to do it now versus next summer? thanks for any info.

Re: Married filing joint or Single? which is better?
The answer depends upon a number of factors, mostly having to do with deductions. While filing jointly usually produces the best result, this is not always true in all cases. I can assist you by running the numbers both ways, if you provided the necessary information. Since you are getting married anyway, and will probably be filing jointly afterwards, it might be worthwhile to check it out to see if you should get a jump on any savings by marrying before the end of the year.
