Legal Question in Tax Law in New York

In the state of New York or Pennsylvania.

If someone owes past taxes and he or she inherits money from a parent.

Can the government take that inherits.

Sure. But the debtor can renounce the inheritance and it will pass as if the debtor predeceased the parent.
