Legal Question in Traffic Law in New York

really old ticket

I recieved a letter in the mail for a ticket i supposably recieved back in 2004 for a broken tail light. Now its been 4 years and i dont even remember recieving the ticket. But looking back in my records i found a copy of the ticket that i mailed back to them pleading guilty. They are just now asking for payment for the ticket and saying if i dont pay it they will suspend my DL. When i called i asked why i never recieved anything from them since 2004, they couldnt give me a answer. i dont think i should have to pay 80.00 for a ticket that was only org for 30.00 because they were backed up 4 years and never sent me anything? do i have to pay this? Is there some type of time limitation on tickets in NY??? hELP

Re: really old ticket

The answer to your question is that there is no statute of limitations on traffic tickets and you are required to pay. As for the amount, it sounds like you are being required to pay the fine plus the state surcharge of $50.00. The only way for me to give you any other answer is to see the ticket and the letter from the court or clerks office and then give you real advise.
