Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in New York

i am a benificiary of a will held in trust by an accountant who tells me there will be a wait of 4 to 8 months before i can collect the annuity on the principal as outlined in the aforesaid will. can he do this? I am 62yrs old with some health issues and i wish to receive the inheritance in a lump sum as oppossed to monthly paymentsand i realize that the amount will be less than the principal cited. can i do this and if so do i need an attorney in n.y. or can i use an attorney in FL where i now reside?
