Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in New York

Distribution of Bequest

Is it customary to sign a ''Receipt'' and have it notorized stating that I have received the Bequest ($amount) before

I actually receive it?

Re: Distribution of Bequest

IT IS TRADITIONAL TO HANDLE THINGS THIS WAY. THIS ASSURES THAT REQUIRED COURT DOCUMENTS ARE ACTUALLY RECEIVED. IF YOU ARE CONCERNED, RETURN THE RECEIPT BY CERTIFIED MAIL, RETURN RECEIPT REQUESTED, WITH A LETTER STATING IT SHOULD BE HELD IN ESCROW AND NOT FILED UNTIL YOU RECEIVE WHAT YOU ARE ENTITLED TO RECEIVE. KEEP A COPY OF YOUR LETTER AND RECEIPT.
