distribution of money (assets)

Can monies that have been released into executors account be distributed among heirs before the sale of the home as long as some money is left in account for the house upkeep until sold?

I agree with Charles that the answer depends upon what is permitted under the Will. However I add that if all other obligations of the estate have been satisified and the only thing holding up distribution of assets is the sale of the home, I see no reason why a preliminary distribution cannot be made now. This presumes there will be sufficient remaining assets to cover all house costs until it is sold.
