executor of estate

my husband died aug 4th and i received a check from insurance co for $83.09 made out to estate of my husbands name.How can I become executor of estate?

I agree with Norman, but this presumes your husband did not have a Will designating someone as the Executor. If there is a Will, the person named as Executor in it needs to probate it and be appointed, or renounce in favor of you. More facts need to be known to provide a better response, e.g., was there a Will and what does it say?

A clerk at the surrogate's court will help you fill out an application to become an administrator of a small estate.
