is an existing will that is altered 3 weeks prior to ones death a legal will ??

Generally, if the will is drafted and executed properly and the testator had the proper donative intent and was not under any undue influence, then the will is legal - even if signed three weeks prior to death.

Alterations added to the Will which have not been signed in compliance with the requirements for signing a Will are totally disregarded.
