Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in New York

need help with my fathers will

I am a Canadian citizen,and my father was an American citizen,he passed away last february 2001,I have not herd from or received,a copy of his will.He told my mother that I was in his will.He was married and he was well to do.His wife at the time has not contacted me whatso ever.I need help in pursueing this matter.Any information would help.Thanks

The Will cannot be properly probated unless you receive notification. Nor can the estate be distributed unless you receive notice.

Why not contact the widow; or your father's lawyer; or a business associate of your father's; or the clergy.

Do you have any record of his property? That might help if a transfer has taken place.

It takes an effort.

If you get an attorney who is in the county where your father lived, the attorney can file a simple motion to get you a copy of the will.
