Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in New York
Finding orignal attorney of said will
I have a conformed will for a deceased relative in which I and my brother are named as beneficiaries. The original will was in an atty's lock box. In attempting to find this attorney and his firm, I have been unsuccessful. It appears they are no longer practicing. Is there any way I can find out who took over the firm. Also, if the atty is deceased what happens to the contents of the lock box. Any ideas on how to track them down would be extremely beneficial. If I cannot track them down, can I enter a conformed will into probate in Bronx, NY. If I go the administration route, I have a sibling that no one can locate and would prefer not to go that path. Thank you in advance for your advice.

Re: Finding orignal attorney of said will
Even if you can't locate the original Will, based on the facts presented in your question, you have a very good basis to have the conformed copy of the Will admitted to probate as a lost Will.
Speak to the probate clerk or see a lawyer.

The best place to start to look for a lawyer is through the NY Bar Association.
Second, you can still submit the will that you have to probate. You should have no trouble. You are welcome to contact me for a free consultation and I can give you the details.
