Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in New York
Looking for godmothers will
I use to be on my godmothers will in 1974. WE have lost contact and I know she died a few years ago.I use to live out of the country so I have no idea what happened. Someone told me that she also had donated a lot to her church in New York. I am having a hard time finding this will in New york or New Jersey. I Have called several places and not much luck. I am also thinking of maybe hiring a lawyer. what should I do?

Re: Looking for godmothers will
Go to this web site:
http://www.ancestry.com/search/rectype/vital/ssdi/main.htm
If you locate her then you will be informed of her date of death and the county in which she resided. That should lead you to the proper courthouse and the clerks are generally very helpful.
There are companies that trace lost persons, but they cost money. Incidentally, so do lawyers.

Her will becomes a public record if probated
It must be probated in the County where
she lived when she died.
The Surrogate's Court there can tell you
if it has been probated.
And, yes, hiring a lawyer is a good idea
