Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in New York

Letter of Testamentary

I have a letter of testamentary dated early December. Clearing out my mother's apartment, we now came across some US savings bonds. It is June. To cash the bonds (in her name and the name of my late father),do I need to get a new letter of testamentary because the letter of testamentary I have is over six months old? Also, I do all my banking on line via an on line bank. Any thoughts on how I might cash these bonds? Thru the Fed in NYC? How?

A. No. Although, depending on the language of the document you may have to obtain updated letters.

A. You may want to open and estate account. You will be able to cash the bonds using the estate account.

Mike.
