Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in New York

Relatives arguing over house

My Grandfather passed away in May and left everything to my 6 aunts and uncles and me. Since May an aunt and an uncle have been arguing over the house, they both want it, apparently both have the money for it. It is now January and no one is living in the house, I am wondering if it has been winterized but the only person that has keys is about 1000 miles away, so I am kind of concerned about broken pipes and the general deterioration of the house. How long does the attorney have to let these two argue over the house? Is there a way to solve this or can it go on forever? If i I think about it from the attorney's point of view, I am sure he would be more than happy to let it go on since it will probably mean more money for him in the end, but not to sound like the greedy grandaughter, I would really like to see this settled already.

Re: Relatives arguing over house

To which attorney do you refer?

Each contesting party has an attorney and the executor has an attorney.

About the house, do you expect to live in it some day, or is it one of your parents who is engaged in battle?

Keep in mind that clients select their attorney and generally the attorney reflects the wishes of the client.

We attorneys take a bum rap (although we do deserve criticism)about how we represent our clients. In the end it is the client who makes all the decisions and basically it is the clients who extend the disputes or resolve the disputes.

Thanks for listening.
