Setting up an estate of------bank acct

My mother passed away on Nov 1st 2001. I am starting to get checks in made out to the Estate of my mothers name. What do I need to set up a bank account and deposit these checks? She didnt have a will since I divested all her assets a number of years ago.

I guess that you left some assets in her name; that's why the checks are coming in.

A small estate admininstration proceeding at the Surrogate's Court will enable you to get the papers needed to establish an Estate bank account in which you can deposit the checks.
