Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in New York

sole beneficary of pension

My faTHER DIED 10/2000and had no will but left me as sole beneficary of his pension. I have been sharing it with my siblings but things have changed between myself and them. And I no longer want to send them anything. Do I have to continue to send them or is it my right to keep it. And can they sue me for it. The pension would go to my sister in case of my death. There is 7 years left on the pension.

Re: sole beneficary of pension

If you are sole beneficiary, you do not have to share the monies with your siblings. You should consult an attorney for a review of the pension documents to make sure you are the sole legal beneficiary.

Re: sole beneficary of pension

The pension is yours. Sharing with your siblings is voluntary and you are free to discontinue your generosity.
