Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in New York
specific bequest
I was left a specific bequest in my fathers will. It is a cottage. My sister is very unhappy about it. Can she contest this and get a portion of this property. She also was left 2 other pieces of property as a specific bequest. Does she have a right to contest what I was left even though she recieved just as much if not more? what gives a person the right to contest a will?

Re: specific bequest
A person has the right to contest a will when he or she believes that there are issues when the decedent signed the document or if there is an issue with the document itself. For example, if the decedent did not have the mental capacity to sign the document. The signature is forged. Another will subsequent to the will offered for probate exists.
