Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in New York
Uncle 90 passes may 2012 his wife passed several years earlier. he was survived by four stepchildren. i get a call out of the blue from trustee saying he will be sending me papers to sign. why would he need my consent to probate the will? (i hadn't talked to my uncle in decades) thank you

If the step-children are not real heirs, or if you were mentioned in the document, you must be notified of pending probate, in case you want to contest Will or if you might be inheriting something under it.
