When/where to report inheritance

Where do I have to report an inheritance? i.e. tax form, family court financial form etc. Who has the right to know this information?

Re: When/where to report inheritance

You have no obligation to report the receipt of an inheritance to anyone, as far as I know.

The files in the Surrogate Court are public records and if the inheritance is disclosed there anyone may look at it.

Re: When/where to report inheritance

The reporting of an inheritance is not necessary.

The only exception is if you receive a "K-1" income distribution form relating to income the Estate made. In that case you have to add the income reported on that form to your income tax returns.
