Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in New York

will in probate

I don't know if someone's will is in probate but I would like to find out and I would also like to know how the assets were disbursed in that will. I am related to the person whose assets they were and he predeceased his wife who died recently.

Re: will in probate

In New York a Will is probated in the county in which the decedent resided at the time of death. You can check with the Surrogate's Court in this county to determine if a probate proceeding has been started and if so you can examine the file and read the Will.
