old credit card

i got served a civil summons on a credit card from two years ago the balance due is 7000 and they told me that they could settle for 5000. my credit is aleady bad what will happen if I don't pay it

If you do nothing, they will get a judgment against you. Whether they can collect anything is another story and depends on your assets and if you stay on top of things. Also, even if you can't pay it and admit that you owe money, it does not mean that you should do nothing or that their calculations are correct. You can still file an answer. Instead of admitting the debt, you file a verified answer (which is notarized) that you deny this is your debt and if it is your debt you deny it is a valid debt and if it a valid debt, you deny the amount sued for is the correct amount.

Then do discovery and ask for the original agreement and go from there.
