Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in North Carolina

Debt bought by CA

I sent the CA a debt validation letter, but have not received their response yet. I do owe the debt.

I had absolutely no money to pay on the credit card and the original creditor was not willing to work with me. I have worked hard to turn my life & finances around. I can now pay the debt off if allowed to do so in installments over a period of a few months. I want to make this right...I want to prevent a suit or a judgement against me. How do I proceed? Once I receive the CA's reply should I consult an attorney?

Re: Debt bought by CA

Save some money each month and try to buy some time. Negotiate the debt down if possible and offer to pay in exchange for not reporting it to the credit bureau or for removing it from your credit report if already on there. Get any settlement in writing.
