Legal Question in Criminal Law in North Carolina
My brother in law has been accused of statutory rape of a minor. It has been a year or so and things are finally starting to happen. The plea deal that has been offered just has assault on a minor. I am in North Carolina, what is the penalty for assault on a minor? What happens?

your brother in law should have an attorney representing him who would know the penalty for misd. assault (which is what it sounds as if your b-i-law has been offered)...i would encourage you to speak with the attorney to get the answers you need...he/she obviously negotiated a very favorable plea for your b-i-law b/c statutory rape is mandatory prison...if you need additional help, you can find me in Charlotte
