Legal Question in Criminal Law in North Carolina

I was charged with Identity Theft in 2008, This occurred after a few months after I return to work after a car accident, in which I suffered memory loss, and severe head injury. I was charged and put on 12 month probation . I am off probation and now I am having trouble getting employment with those who do background checks. Can this charged be removed from my record so I can seek employment.
