Legal Question in Family Law in North Carolina

I had a big argument with my wife that has been resolved now, however she says that she filed a police report even though I did not touch her or harmed her in any way, she says she told the officer she did not want to press charges. I told her I wanted to see the copy of the police report and she says she did not get one. I have not heard anything from the police or court or anyone, so could she be lying?, should i get in front of this and hire a lawyer? can I find out if the a report was truly filed? I don't want to get in trouble for something i did not do.

thank you

Nobody wants to get in trouble for something they didn't do but it happens every day - usually because some idiot failed to follow rule number one - which is keep your mouth shut. In your situation there is an old saying that is applicable - "there's nothing to worry about until there is something to worry about". Basically meaning, you should just take a 'wait and see' attitude as there is likely nothing you can do to prevent it and mucking about in it yourself (i.e the desire to 'tell your side of the story') will likely just make things worse and prematurely hiring a lawyer is just a waste of money. It is possible a report was filed and that she did not get a copy and that the officer felt charges at that time were not appropriate - nothing fishy there. So you should keep your mouth shut, keep your fingers crossed and count your blessings that this appears to be nothing. If a some point it becomes something - definitely keep your mouth shut and hire an attorney at that point. Best of luck!
