Legal Question in Family Law in North Carolina

Where would I find out how to file a motion to intervene in a child custody case where the child is in the custody of a department of social services in north Carolina and her grandparents who live in Virginia want to get custody of her? How could they locate information to help them write up and file their own motion?

Grandparent rights are almost non-existent to tenuous at best. Why risk wasting your time by attempting to do your own legal work? If you aren't a mechanic, it would likely never even occur to you to attempt to repair your cars transmission. So why when you aren't an attorney, do you believe yourself to be competent to draft and file your own custody motion? Even if you were competent to draft and file your own motion (which you are not) - then what? You'd need several years worth of training and experience to be able to competently handle everything that can be thrown at you in a custody battle. If you are serious about getting custody of your grand daughter, then bite the bullet and hire an attorney. If you are hemming and hawing about not being able to afford an attorney, then you likely can not afford the financial burden of raising a child either.
