I understand that you are asking how to help your boyfriend to become a lawful permanent resident of the USA (instead of being here illegally). You should start by consulting a qualified immigration attorney re: how and when your boyfriend came to USA; if on visa, what visa; whether anyone ever had petitioned for him, etc.
Also, there are no visas for boyfriends of US citizen (assuming that you are a US citizen). Even if you are legally married, it could be difficult to help him to become a permanent resident (get a Green Card) if he came to USA illegally or there are some additional inadmissibility/deportability grounds.
For general information, you can look at www.uscis.gov. For a legal advice, you should consult an immigration lawyer.
