Legal Question in Immigration Law in North Carolina
I just filed Chapter 13 Bankruptcy for financial reorganization. I actually have excellent income/debt ratio, but I needed to reorganize for some unexpected expenses. Now that I have filed, I am on solid financial footing.
Would it ok or advisable if I sponsor a Chinese citizen to visit the US and submit an i-134 form? I do not know if my bankruptcy status is consideration for sponsorship, and if it would be a detriment to the applicant's visa appoval.
Thank you,
Mark

Mark,
US citizens don't need to "sponsor" a foreign citizen for just a visit. There are different rules applicable to visitor's visa. Visa's approval is mainly dependent on other factors, all having to do with a foreign national and not his/her sponsor. However, an affidavit of support can sometimes be required by a Consult as a proof that a foreign individual has where to stay and someone is going to pay for his or her daily expenses.
