Legal Question in International Law in North Carolina
art import and sales
I'm considering an offer from an acquaintance who lives in Russia. She has a very good local artist friend and wants to export her original paintings to me in North Carolina, so that I can sell them in the USA. I've seen photos of some of the paintings and they are very good. I think my role will be import agent or agent/dealer. I'm considering offering the paintings to local dealers for consignment and offering them for sale on the internet. I will transfer the proceeds to Russia, and keep a portion for myself. Which laws do I need to know about? What are the risks and potential liability, and what type of insurance do I need? Which formal agreements or contracts would I need between myself and the exporter, dealer, and buyer?

Re: art import and sales
To start you need to find out if there is no russian law against the export of "oeuvres d'art". For the rest you need a full time S.C. attorney!
