Legal Question in Real Estate Law in North Carolina
We have entered into a rental agreement with an understanding that we will apply to purchase the home upon completion of the lease. The lease agreement requires us to pay $1K a month with the owner(s) putting $200 a month in escrow to be used as a down payment, in additon to the $5K that we payed up front. The problem: the owners have not returned emails or phone calls regarding heating and plumbing situation, which is clearly stated in rental lease that they are responsible for repairing. Please help! We don't want to buy this home anymore, because we feel that we've been "had", but how can we get our $5K back?
