Legal Question in Real Estate Law in North Carolina
The house that I am renting from a local company had a sign saying that the house was "uninhabitable" and it was unlawful for us to remain in the dwelling. However, the rental agency said that they would not release us from our lease even though the lease has been broke. What steps must be taken for us to get out of the lease agreement and are we entitled to receive some rent money back?

If it is uninhabitable then they are not entitled to collect the rent. Go to court if they sue you and explain. Try to get a photo of the sign if you can, and take that to court.
