Legal Question in Traffic Law in North Carolina

Dina Whelan

My husband received a speeding citation while going 52 in a 35 MPH zone in Youngsville, NC which is located in Franklin County. Do we have to hire an attorney? How do we prevent our insurance from going up? Can we get it dropped to nine over the speed limit, or better yet change it to a non-moving voilation? What are average attorney costs?

Generally you can get it reduced. In Franklin County, you may even have a chance of getting a non moving violation which generally depends on certain factors. If you hire an attorney for this sort of citation, you usually don't need to show up.

Your total costs (including court costs and fine) will probably be in the neighborhood of $250-$350.

Please keep in mind every individual situation is different. You will probably also get a lot of solicitations from attorneys in the mail and some may have the costs on there.
