Delivery Service

If I were to start a local delivery service (Portsmouth,OH), would I need any kind of license to be able to buy alcohol, tobacco, or hot foods (from a carry out or fast food place)and deliver them to a persons residence?

Re: Delivery Service

Intriguing idea. Though labor intensive, I can see where it would be profitable, especially for elderly or disabled customers. Hire an attorney. Check with the local police and prosecutors. Clearly you would need to guard against providing alcohol or tobacco to minors. A cursory (quick) review of Ohio statutes did not disclose any statutory prohibition. You are right to look for some local ordinance or permit requirement. It might be prudent to operate on a subscription or ongoing basis for a select, pre-certified clientele (rather than phone calls from strangers asking you to make purchases and deliveries). You would then be able to generate a form naming you as the customer's agent for the limited purpose of purchase and delivery of specified types of goods. Good luck. Steve
