Legal Question in Business Law in Ohio

My employer has told me and my co-workers that we can no longer have facebook or myspace, any pictures of any kind be it a family picture, picture of me on a trip, or any picture what-so-ever. They say the only thing about us we can have online is our email. I was wondering is this legal?

The general answer is yes. I am not licensed in Ohio, I can only speak in general terms. They like many other companies are seeking to limit their exposure to the general public. Many law firms have stated that any of their employees should close their accounts or not create one as long as they are employed by the firm. Your contract of employment including the employee handbook usually gives the details of employment. In general it is the best thing for the company to proscribe any use of the social media sites rather than may case by case exemptions for each employee. Without review of your contract of employment, I cannot comment further.

Good luck!

The other attorney is right on point. You should check your employment agreement (if you have one) and employee handbook. You can also contact your state's employment or labor department and ask them. Consult with a good business attorney in your area for specific advice.
