Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Ohio

Student Loan Defult and Collection

My Granddaughter's Student loan:

Eight years ago she brought some papers around and asked me to sign. Said she was applying for a direct student loan. I signed but don't recall what it was all about.

After a couple of years she dropped out of school and we became estranged. I know she had a number of jobs. I have heard little about her. I did hear she had moved in with someone and this year she had a baby and had married this fellow. Of late I heard he had enlisted in the Army and was being sent overseas. I am not sure where she is now.

Today I found a message on my answering machine from The William D. Ford Direct Loan Program. They wanted to know her whereabouts.

I want to call them but need to know just how much difficulty we may be in. Can you give me some advice?

Re: Student Loan Defult and Collection

If you cosigned the loan, you will be responsible. You may need to request copies of the loan documentation.
