Legal Question in Family Law in Ohio
Needs advice on possible divorce
My husband is considering leaving and is talking about leaving and has mentioned divorce and dissolution. Does dissolution mean that all things are split equitably? He also mentioned that if I gave him $15000, he would sign papers. Is this legal or even possible? I would also like to know if I will have to pay him alimony, since I am the only one working full time (he does receive $900-1000 monthly and works a part time job). How much is he even entitled to (the title to the house and morgage are both solely in my name & I have been the sole support of the household for nearly 20 years). There are currently no minor children between the two of us. Is it possible to include mental anguish in a dissolution (this would be on my part backed up by my 2 adult children)? I would really appreciate some help in this. I am completely ''lost?'' I look forward to hearing from you!

To begin with a dissolution is where the parties have reached an agreement as to all issues which includes, support, property division, grounds, and custody, visitation and support of the children. A divorce is when there are issues that cant be agreed upon and you are seeking to the court to decide. If you agree spousal support can be waived. But in order to be able to fully assess your situation, more information is needed such as your income and expenses, the value of the house less any mortgages. Please feel free to contact me to discuss further.

Whether you petition for a divorce or dissolution, your marital assets should be evenly split. It is better to seek a dissolution as long as the division of assets is fair. Answers to your other questions are specific to you and are best answered with the help of an attorney.
