Custody Vacations vs Child Care

My ex will be keeping our son while I'm out of the country on a Mission Trip. Ex is entitled to have the first choice of keeping our son while I'm away. He wants to keep him but wants me to pay for the child care while I'm away and thinks just because he pays child support that I have to pay for child care while our son is with him. Is this correct?

How long is your stay away? Does the shared parenting plan make provisions for a parent's long absence? If not, this is an informal custody arrangement and, as such, can be viewed as a favor to you. This being a favor, he could offer to pay for child care and could also decline.
