Legal Question in Family Law in Ohio
divorce/rights to house
I am thinking of divorcing my husband. I bought a house after we were married that only my name is on. If we get divorced does he have any rights to my house? I know he had to sign something at closing in regard to dower rights. Does anyone know if he can take my house or any part of it?

Re: divorce/rights to house
If you bought the house after you were married and held it out to be the marital home, meaning you both lived there as a married couple, then the house is likely marital property. As such, your husband would have a property interest in the house.
Whether or not your husband will get any of the house depends on what other assets and liabilities you both have and what kind of property division you can both agree to as part of the divorce decree.

It is very possible that the house is marital property. This depends upon the money used to purchase it, and how separate the ownership, upkeep, and maintenance of the house has been handled between the two of you.
