Re: civil lawsuits
Dear Concerned Reader: In Ohio, all lawsuits filed with the clerk of Court, whether Municipal or County Courts, must, within a reasonable time of several days after the case has been filed, issue a Summons and a copy of the Complaint, sent either by Certified Mail, or to be served personally by a Sheriff, or Bailiff of the Court.
If you are concerned, contact the Clerk of Court to request a search, to see whether your name appears on any filing. You may do so once each week, or less, to allay your concerns.
Otherwise, contact and retain a skilled Attorney to resolve your matter before a complaint is filed. It's more economical.
God luck.
Sincerely,
J. Norman Stark, Cleveland, Ohio.
Re: civil lawsuits
It depends on what court you are being sued in and what documents you are referring to. However, typically if someone files a lawsuit against you; you will receive a copy of the complaint in about a week, and will have 28 days to respond. If you receive a complaint; contact an attorney.
