Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Ohio
Want to Do the Right Thing with Jury Duty
Hi. I received a jury summons on July
23 for August 21. I was so distraught
(due to personal circumstances) at the
thought of jury duty that I
misunderstood the letter and didn't
reply. I no longer live in the county that
is summoning me. I am 32 and have
never been in trouble with the law and
don't want to start now. What is the
best thing to do? If I go am I
defrauding the court?

Just call the court and ask them what to do..no big deal...they very often accommodate requests. Just make sure to call them...
Re: Want to Do the Right Thing with Jury Duty
Dear "Worried",
You need have no fear about your having been summoned for jury duty. Since you no longer reside in the county where you were summoned, a simple telephone call to the Jury Commissioner notifying him or her of your change in residence is all that is required to relieve you of this obligation as a citizen. To further assure you, you may wish to confirm your telephone call with a short letter, sent by Certified U.S. Mail. Better yet, for less cost you may wish to send the letter obtaining a Certificate of Mailing, at your local U.S. Postal Service post office.
Now, stop worrying. Good luck.
Sincerely, J. Norman Stark
