Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Ohio

Sale of Rental Property While Still Occupied by Tenants

Our landlord sold the house we are living in after multiple reassurances that he was not selling until next year. Our lease is going to transfer to the new owner's, but we are not comfortable with that and would like to get out of our lease now with current owner. Does the lease have to transfer or can we leave since we signed a written agreement with current landlord? There is nothing written in the lease about our obligation if the property is transferred to new owners.

Your landlord can transfer the lease whether the lease contains a provision to that effect or not. If you want out talk to the new landlord. He may be willing to let you out so he can renovate the property, then rent it at a higher rent.
