May the parents of a large family name more than one guardian and/or married couple to share guardianship without splitting up the children??

I agree that the parents may name more than one guardian. In most instances the Court will honor the parents choice but the Court does have the ability to determine that it would be in the best interest of the child(ren) to appoint only one couple or one person.

Also, those named as guardian may decide that it would be better if only one of them took on the responsibility-there is no requirement that those named have to accept the job. They are free to decline, even if they have indicated that they are willing. Things change and people move.

You may want to name one person or couple as primary and then have someone else as backup to serve in the event the primary is unwilling or unable to accept the position.
