Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Ohio

How to get reimbursed for funeral expenses

I recently paid for funeral expenses for my boyfriend's grandmother because none of her children could afford it at the time. It was suggested that I put a lien on the decendent's property for reimbursement, but I don't think that is how it works. This is in Montgomery County Ohio by the way. Can someone tell me how I go about making sure that the decendent's estate pays me back for funeral expenses? It is my understanding that she did own her home outright and that there is a will.

Re: How to get reimbursed for funeral expenses

You need to file a written claim for reimbursement with the executor of the estate. Send a copy to the court. A portion of the funeral bill is a priority claim. Do so as soon as possible.
