Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Oklahoma
I was wondering if the prohibiting of employees or families from participating in a sweepstakes (with the company) just because of employment with that company is a violation of the civil rights act of 1964?I know it would look bad if someone who works for the company won, I can understand that, but why should a person who is related to them not be able to claim their own prize if they win? I know they are afraid that if they let that happen then someone would try to cheat the prize game and have their family member just claim it for them. I think that they should just make it harder to cheat and if someone is found cheating then fire them but It cant be right that they are discriminating families of workers for a game. How do they have legal authority to do that?

This is not a civil rights issue. It falls more under policy and procedure, code of conduct, ethical behavior and morale conduct. This is for good reason and it is merely an act of good faith. I hope this helps.
