Legal Question in Family Law in Oregon

Hi. Thanks for taking the time to answer my question. The company I was working for closed down and everyone was layed off. How can I get spousal support terminated? If I were to keep paying her the same amount, all my unemployment wouldn't cover it. It was being with held from my checks and sent to the state and then they would pay her (before I was layed off). I can afford child support just not the high spousal support. Would it help my case if she is living with a guy (engaged) and he makes a lot of money?

A court order establishing an obligation to pay spousal support cn be terminated or reduced only by a subsequent court order (or by your death). So what you need to do (short of dying() it to go back to court and filed a MOTION FOR TERMINATION (OR REDUCTION) OF SPOUSAL SUPPORT. Proper form and procedure must be folllowed, which varies from state to state (and sometimes county to countyr). Best advice is to consult with a local lawyer to assist you in this effort. Alterantively, most courthouses nowadays have a Family Court Facilitator on staff to help self-represented litigants. They cannot give legal advice, but they can help guide you through the system if you cannot afford to hire a lawyer.
