Can an employer require you to return money they gave you due to an error they made in accounting?

You asked about returning money paid in error by an employer.
You have no choice but to return money overpaid by an employer. The only caveat is that the employer must agreed to be paid back in the same manner that the money was paid out (i.e. If you were overpaid $10 per week then the employer gets paid back at $10 per week).
If you keep the money that is conversion, more commonly known as stealing.
