New laws make almost any form of a signature acceptable, whether in hard copy or electronic. Generally, if a party intends a document to be binding and does anything that can or should be construed as an authorization then the document has been "signed."

Essentially, actual signatures aren't really necessary so much as an authorization. If I return an email to a person from an account I am known to use and that email purports to accept an agreement reached by the sender and myself then that email would be considered signed by me.

In very few instances can a document ever be challenged for lack of a proper signature as we conventionally think of a signature.
