Legal Question in Business Law in Pennsylvania

logistics company unprepared bills overcharges

Dear Attorney,

I imported a container of furniture. This was my first experience. I contacted a logistics firm two months in advance to handle getting the container through customs and forward shipping its contents. The logistics firm was given contact info for the freighter co. and manufacturer. When the ship arrived to port (late) the logistics company had not obtained the needed paperwork, nor informed me what the process was. They contacted me to attempt to get all the needed paperwork while the ship waited in port. Communication was very poor, the container sat in port and then storage for a week before they were prepared to clear it. I was informed that I would pay the overcharges and storage fees. This problem was the result of paperwork that could have been obtained in advance of the arrival of the ship. I had no idea of what was required, expecting the logistics company to handle all. I saved all communication from them. Please inform me who is responsible for all the additional fees. Thank you.

Re: logistics company unprepared bills overcharges

Unfortunately this cannot be answered without looking at all the paperwork including the original contract and all communications. You may or may not be liable for the additional amount.

An attorney can help you prepare the documentation and contracts for services to minimize your liability. I would be happy to look into this or any other legal matter for you. You can contact me at [email protected].
