Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Pennsylvania

spousal responsibility

A brief background - The wife works full time out of the home, the husband owns his own construction business. The husband and wife share bills and expenses for the household. He is soley responsible for his business and everything regarding it is in his name only. He is behind on bills for the business and collection agencies are harassing the wife and home and at work. Is this legal and how can she stop them from harassing her over his business bills. She has no problem with collectors harassing him, but does not want harassed for something that is not part of her responsiblity.

Re: spousal responsibility

You asked about stopping harrassment from creditors.

Take a look at here and the Web in general about enforcing the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. If the collectors do not comply, sue them or hire and attorney to sue them in small claims or Federal court. Attorney fees are often awarded as part of the award.
